Owner, The Gradwell House

In 2006, Steve Poponi and Dave Downham took a chance and converted a Masonic Lodge in a small New Jersey town into 6000 square feet of music recording and rehearsal space. The resulting output, and the community it has inspired, are nothing short of remarkable.

I used to be a competitive figure skater as a kid.

How has your worklife changed over the past three years?
Even though I run a commercial recording studio, I do a lot more of my work from a home studio that I built in a spare bedroom over the pandemic.

What’s the first thing you’d buy if you won the lottery?
House on the beach in Puerto Rico.

What’s the best piece of business advice you’ve ever been given?
If at all possible, own the building your business is in.
